Treasury has entered uncharted waters with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic upheaval. Treasury professionals across the globe have had to adapt like never before, making adjustments to everything from everyday work processes to forecasting without a basis in historical data.

In this virtual roundtable discussion, our guest panelists share solutions to the challenges they have faced; what is working, and what continues to be challenging. They discuss what could have been done differently to prepare, and what the future looks like for corporate treasury when the pandemic economy has run its course.

Strategic Treasurer's Craig Jeffery moderates the discussion between our four panelists:

Priya Kurian – Canadian Tire Corporation, Ltd. 
Priya currently leads the Canadian Tire Treasury Operations team across all business segments including various retail businesses, bank, and REIT as Canadian Tire’s AVP of Treasury Operations and Risk Management. Her team is responsible for defining and managing financial risk management strategies across numerous asset classes along with liquidity management for all business units across the globe. The Canadian Tire Team completed its implementation of the GTreasury Single Solution in late 2019 with adoption of all six modules. Prior to her time at Canadian Tire Priya managed multiple teams across the corporate consulting, TRM and corporate arenas. Priya currently resides with her family in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is loving the work-from-home life.


Emily Nidermaier – Markel
Emily has worked in Treasury at Markel Corporation for just over 12 years. The Treasury team has responsibility over liquidity for the entire organization, both domestic and international, short term trading, currency and FX management, trade settlement, debt compliance, and many other ad hoc items. The Markel Treasury team has been using GTreasury for both cash positioning and payment processing for about 2 ½ years. Emily lives just outside of Richmond, Virginia, and has two awesome kiddos and one cool mutt.

Mikko Ronkko – Farmers Insurance
Mikko is the Treasury Manager at Farmers Insurance Group. The Farmers Treasury team is responsible for daily cash management, cash investments, cash flow forecasting, debt management and compliance, and bank relationship management. Mikko joined Farmers in 2012. Prior to that Mikko worked in liquidity and capital management at Zurich Insurance Group in Zurich Switzerland. Mikko also spent almost 4 years as a corporate treasury specialist at Trema (now a part of Wallstreet Systems) in Sophia Antipolis, France. Mikko lives with a wife and 2 dogs in Los Angeles, California

Scott Travis – CUNA Mutual Group
Scott is the Treasury Manager at CUNA Mutual Group. In this role, he is responsible for supporting CUNA Mutual Group’s short-range cash and debt management functions. Scott joined CUNA Mutual Group’s treasury department in 2010. Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Scott was an assistant treasurer at National Farmers Organization, he spent a little over a year at Grande Cheese Company as a treasury manager and he spent several years as a corporate treasury professional in various positions at Principal in Des Moines, Iowa. Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Iowa State University and holds the Certified Treasury Professional designation. Scott lives in Mayville, Wisconsin, with his 3 very active children and dog along with an educator for a wife.
